Leather‌ ‌Filler

Leather‌ ‌filler‌ ‌is‌ ‌a‌ ‌flexible‌ ‌compound‌ ‌that‌ ‌is‌ ‌used‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌repair‌ ‌of‌ ‌both‌ ‌leather‌ ‌and‌ ‌vinyl‌ ‌upholstery.‌ ‌When‌‌ using‌ ‌to‌ ‌repair‌ ‌leather‌ ‌or‌ ‌vinyl,‌ ‌leather‌ ‌filler‌ ‌works‌ ‌best‌ ‌when‌ ‌used:‌‌

On‌ ‌scaly,‌ ‌cracked,‌ ‌or‌ ‌thinning‌ ‌areas‌ ‌where‌ ‌the‌ ‌leather‌ ‌is‌ ‌worn‌ ‌and‌ ‌the‌ ‌backing‌ ‌or‌ ‌suede‌ ‌is‌ ‌exposed.‌‌ On‌ ‌those‌ ‌items‌ ‌that‌ ‌have‌ ‌been‌ ‌used‌ ‌by‌ ‌a‌ ‌cat‌ ‌as‌ ‌a‌ ‌scratching‌ ‌post.‌‌

On‌ ‌holes‌ ‌that‌ ‌measure‌ ‌larger‌ ‌than‌ ‌½”‌‌Most‌ ‌often,‌ ‌the‌ ‌leather‌ ‌filler‌ ‌is‌ ‌a‌ ‌water-based‌ ‌compound‌ ‌that‌ ‌can‌ ‌be‌ ‌applied‌ ‌easily.‌ ‌Although‌ ‌formulated‌‌to‌ ‌air‌ ‌dry,‌ ‌the‌ ‌time‌ ‌needed‌ ‌to‌ ‌cure‌ ‌can‌ ‌be‌ ‌significantly‌ ‌accelerated‌ ‌with‌ ‌the‌ ‌use‌ ‌of‌ ‌an‌ ‌incandescent‌ ‌bulb‌ ‌or‌‌ sunshine.

Typically,‌ ‌a‌ ‌leather‌ ‌filler‌ ‌is‌ ‌composed‌ ‌of‌ ‌a‌ ‌mixture‌ ‌of‌ ‌PVA‌ ‌glue‌ ‌with‌ ‌leather‌ ‌paint‌ ‌and‌ ‌finish.‌ ‌Since‌ ‌the‌‌leather‌ ‌filling‌ ‌compound‌ ‌is‌ ‌white‌ ‌in‌ ‌color,‌ ‌you‌ ‌will‌ ‌need‌ ‌to‌ ‌use‌ ‌a‌ ‌special‌ ‌primer‌ ‌and‌ ‌an‌ ‌airbrush‌ ‌to‌ ‌evenly‌‌and‌ ‌properly‌ ‌apply‌ ‌the‌ ‌compound‌ ‌to‌ ‌finish‌ ‌and‌ ‌strengthen‌ ‌the‌ ‌leather.‌‌
